These Little Oases ... and Try! Try! Twice!

This is just a short post to confirm details of our upcoming day of poetry in Brooklyn, titled These Little Oases, on Saturday 28th October, 12-8pm. Organized in collaboration with The Brooklyn Rail, the event takes place at their space in Sunset Park, 900 3rd Avenue, Brooklyn, NY 11232. 

The day primarily consists of a series of short poetry readings, by Anne Waldman, Edmund Berrigan, Ayaz Muratoglu, Paolo Javier, Elinor Nauen, John Yau, Jordan Davis, John Godfrey, Rona Cran, Tilghman Goldsborough, Bob Rosenthal, Kay Gabriel, Anselm Berrigan, and Patricia Spears Jones. There will also be a roundtable discussion on 'the New York School now', featuring Andrew Epstein, Alexandra Gold, Libbie Rifkin, and Nick Sturm, chaired by Mandana Chaffa. We are very grateful to all of our participants - thank you in advance for sharing your work and your time with us.

By way of a prelude to the event, on the evening of Friday 27th October, 7-8.30pm, we're delighted to present, via Torn Page, a performance of Try! Try! Twice! Directed by Tony Torn, Try! Try! Twice! stages two versions of Frank O'Hara's play, accounting for the 1951 version, inspired by O'Hara's friendships with Violet Lang and John Ashbery, and the 1953 rewrite, informed by his intimate relationship and artistic collaboration with Larry Rivers. This production presents both plays back-to-back with identical casts, navigating the tonal shift from 1951's surreal Sirk-ian melodrama to 1953's screwball sex comedy, much like Rock Hudson would navigate from the world of a film like Magnificent Obsession to that of Pillow Talk.
