Network December News

15/12/2023

'these little oases': a gathering - you can now listen to the recording of this event, which took place at the end of October, as well as see some photos, via our website: https://www.nnyss.org/nyc-2023-media.html. Thanks again to all involved for a really special day.

We're thrilled to share the press release for The Miraculous Season: Selected Poems (Carcanet, February 2024) by V.R. ‘Bunny’ Lang, edited by Rosa Campbell. This Carcanet Classics edition marks the rediscovery of a forgotten woman poet, who was as eccentric as her poetry is excellent, and introduces a vital addition to the canon of the New York School.

Charles North's News, Poetry and Poplars: Poems + Selected Prose is due out with Black Square Editions in January. Charles and Ron Padgett will be reading together in the online Brooklyn Rail series, January 17th at 1:00 p.m.

Black Lodge, composed by David T. Little, directed by Michael Joseph McQuilken, and with libretto by Anne Waldman, has been nominated for a 2024 Grammy Award in the category of Best Opera Recording. You can watch the trailer here. All fingers crossed for February!

Poets at Keble – as part of Matt Bevis's Poets at Keble series, there will be a reading by Alice Notley on Thursday 22nd February, 6 pm: https://www.keble.ox.ac.uk/teaching-research/poetry-at-keble/poets-at-keble/.

Patricia Spears Jones discussed her poem 'Saturnine', from The Beloved Community, with Kenneth Salzman. Read it here: https://kennethsalzmann.substack.com/p/reprise-mercy-walks-down-a-different?r=el29f&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web.
There's a review of The Beloved Community by Rona Cran in the latest edition of The Brooklyn Rail.

Christopher Sawyer-Lauçanno has written a tribute to Kenward Elmslie for Cable Street - you can read it here.

Anselm Berrigan and Kit Robinson gave a great reading on December 2nd for the Segue Reading Series. If you missed it, here's the recording: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=K1DFShXm6JE. Enjoy!

The next Poets & Critics symposium will be held on 25-26 April 2024 with John Yau at Université Paris Cité, organized by Olivier Brossard, Abigail Lang, and Vincent Broqua. This will also be the occasion to celebrate the publication of Une autre façon d'écrire sur le sable, a volume of selected poems by John Yau, edited and translated by Marc Chénetier, which will come out in April with joca seria. All details about the John Yau symposium will be posted in due course at poetscritics.org.
