Eileen Myles is featured in a new film, Wayfaring Stranger, directed by Andrea Luka Zimmerman, which enlists the work of seven performers – all women or non-binary – to embody a lifespan in seven stages.
Some really great books are either out, or are imminent, including:
Philip Terry and Marina Warner at the LRB Shop, Weds 13 November, 7pm. Terry's Purgatorio (Carcanet) transports us to Mersea Island, where Ted Berrigan leads our author up an artificial mountain to meet with artists Grayson Perry, Rachel Whiteread and Damien Hirst, as well as Christopher Marlowe, Boris Johnson, Lady Diana, Jean Paul Getty, Hilary Clinton, Allen Ginsberg, Samuel Beckett, Martin McGuinness, Ciaran Carson and Anoushka Shankar. Terry will be at the shop to read from and talk about Purgatorio with Marina Warner, acclaimed mythographer, historian and iconologist, who features in the poem. Susannah Hollister and Emily Setina recently hosted a discussion of The Pleasures of Peace and Other Poems for the Kenneth Koch Book Club. The third meeting of the Book Club is on Sunday, November 24, at 2 PM ET. Painter Katherine Koch will lead the discussion of The Art of Love, and critic and literary historian Nick Sturm will also present on the instructional turn in Koch's work. Anselm Berrigan's 'Poem Inspired by Everything' (for Charles North) is published in The Baffler no. 76. Anselm is the 2025 Bagley Wright Lecture Series Lecturer. Betsy Porritt was interviewed by Danne Jobin of Poetology, about her pamphlet Oh Unquenchable Thirst (Distance No Object), in a conversation about poetry and place, tone and voice and choice, and small press publishing. For those of us who are London-based, Three of Hearts: A Poetry Reading, featuring Steff Huì Cí Ling, Clint Burnham, and James Goodwin, is happening at the legendary Cock Tavern, NW1 1HB, on November 7th, at 7pm. There will be a free pamphlet distributed at the reading featuring work by Steff, Clint and James; also available will be remaining copies from the Nora Fulton, Imogen Cassels and Luke Roberts triple-header from a few months ago. Please spread the word around to anyone you think might be interested, and/or go along! Comments are closed.
